Engines
3.9L DOHC 32V V-8
(Thunderbird)
The all-aluminum engine is derived from the acclaimed 4.0L V-8 first
fitted in the XK8 sports car. This engine is currently used in the
Lincoln LS and provides the luxury touring customer with excellent NVH
characteristics and a combination of excellent performance and good fuel
economy.
- All-aluminum engine bedplate for weight savings and improved
machining quality
- Lightweight valvetrain features direct-acting mechanical bucket
aluminum tappets with 5mm diameter valve stems and lightweight keys,
retainers and springs
- Coil-on-plug ignition system for more reliable individual spark
delivery
- Extensive use of composites in external areas to reduce weight. In
addition to the intake manifold, examples include composite cam
covers, thermostat housing, water outlet pipe and wire harness
carrier
- Hydraulic cooling fan system is quieter than an electric
fan, with less drain on the electrical system, and can better match
engine cooling needs through Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
- Viscous engine mounts (oil damped) help isolate engine vibrations
from the vehicle body and passenger compartment
- A complete dual exhaust system from the engine heads back includes
dual mufflers and dual resonators

Instrument Cluster
The Instrument Panel is black, with optional bright accent colors.
Three brushed aluminum appliqués run along the middle of the instrument
panel to the left and right of the steering column. Major features
include:
- Two air conditioning vent registers
- Audio and climate controls
- Cigarette lighter

- Ignition-keyed passenger airbag deactivation switch
- "Airbag Deactivated" warning light
- Power point
The Instrument Cluster features oversized analog instruments with big
dials and simple graphics that can be read at a glance. Dial faces are
white with black numerals and graphics, and have turquoise pointers. The
face graphics are contemporary, yet reminiscent of the classic
Thunderbird. Night lighting is a consistent soft greenish hue.
