NEUTRAL TOWING

Many of your customers may have asked whether or not they can tow their factory-equipped vehicles with all four wheels on the ground. Referred to as "Four-wheel-down" Towing, also called Neutral Towing, this procedure is popular with vacationers who own recreational vehicles and like to take a second vehicle with them when they travel. The following quick-reference chart will help you answer whether or not specific Ford vehicles can be neutral towed. However, be sure to consult the individual vehicle's Owner's Guide for specific towing methods or restrictions.

Note: Different vehicles have different restrictions and procedures for recreational and emergency towing. Consult the individual vehicle's Owner's Guide for specific towing procedures and restrictions. For safe operation, towed vehicles should be equipped with a separate functional brake system.

1.  Vehicle is equipped to be towed at highway speeds (see Owner's Guide for individual model speed restrictions) with no distance restrictions and without the need to disconnect the rear driveshaft.
2.  Not to be towed faster than 55 mph.
3.  Electronic shift-on-the-fly in 2H, transmission in Neutral.
4.  Requires that the center disconnect be locked out by capping off one of the front-axle vacuum motorlines. See your Ford dealer for assistance.
